Taming the Monkey

You’ve heard it said that “my mind ran away with me,” “I got distracted,” “my emotions got the best of me,” etc. Eastern philosophers call these energized, unproductive, focus-lacking and often random states of mental chaos the “monkey in your mind.”

Continued success at any endeavor requires constant mental effort and focus. Winners at every level prove this. Episode 18 of the Monster in the Making® podcast is all about Taming the Monkey in Your Mind. We are all monsters in the making. We can all take daily steps to improve our ability to fine tune our mental focus to enhance our physical capabilities.

Sometimes we feel like nothing is working or going right. Other times we feel like too many things are working too fast around us for us to keep up. Episode 18 explains how to get the monkey off your back by taming the monkey in your mind.

You don’t have to buy a ticket to a three-ring circus to be entertained. If you do, choose the best place to sit, choose what to focus on and when to walk out if you’re not getting your money’s worth. There’s usually another barrel of monkeys in your path just around the corner wanting your attention again anyway.

So, if you want to get where you’re going the fastest, stay focused and choose the best direction. And if a barrel of mental monkeys shows up, put a lid on it and carry on.

Master the monkeys. Until then –

Be you. Be real. Be better. Be a Monster in the Making®.
